WHITE SANDS, 2023

In the early winter, I was deeply inspired to create a nude body and landscape photograph in the soft, never-ending, ethereal landscape of White Sands National Park. Working with Chaune Rael-Whitsitt from Picuris Pueblo, we spent several days before sunrise chasing the soft “first light” to create this image that conveys the earthy, sensual, bodily feelings that amplify the interconnections between woman and the land. In Nüwüvi culture, women have the unique gift of communing with Mother Earth. When we dance, we remove our shoes to allow our skin to touch and feel the earth below. We are the landscape.
