PUHA (The Path), 2020

Taken at sunset on a hilltop in Chemehuevi Valley, PUHA means “the path”. From L to R featuring: Curtiss, Winka, John, and Kiyanni--four boys from the Chemehuevi Valley Indian Reservation singing with the gourd. In California, this is called “singing the birds” or sometimes “bird singing”. It has been an honor to work with them and their parents over the past couple of years to share the beauty of our Chemehuevi people, land, and culture. They make our Tribe very proud by staying on the path to keeping our culture strong. They are our future.
